Though most people are well aware of the benefits of liposuction in reducing excessive accumulation of body fat, few know of two relatively obscure procedures designed to re-contour very specific areas of excess fat in the face. These two simple, but very specific, procedures are called Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty (TCB) and
Buccal Fat Extraction (BFE).
Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty - TCB is an incredibly quick and effective procedure designed for patients who notice "puffy" bags under their eyes, but have not yet developed loose or crepe like skin requiring traditional eyelid lifts. Through tiny incisions in the inside of the lower eyelid, invisible from the outside, the excess fatty baggage is trimmed away leaving an immediate and permanent correction of this very distressing cosmetic liability. What is so great about this procedure is that younger patients with congenital puffy eyes can be treated in a simple outpatient setting with no visible incisions and minimal or no bruising. Heretofore, these patients felt they were too young to bear potentially visible signs of plastic surgery. Patients are ecstatic with the results and the ease of the procedure and recovery.

Buccal Fat Extraction - The Buccal (related to the cheek) fat pad is a very discreet pocket of fat present in the cheek between the two muscles that account for sucking and chewing. In infants, this pad is quite prominent and assists the glide of these muscles during suckling. This area of facial "baby fat" typically diminishes significantly in adolescence, giving the face a thinner, more angular, and chiseled appearance. In many people, however, too much fat remains, giving the cheeks a pudgy "pinchable" appearance. During BFE a tiny access incision is placed in a very specific location within the cheek, inside the mouth, to easily remove the offending excess of fat. The procedure takes a brief time to perform and recovery is almost immediate. At most, there may be a little tenderness when chewing, for a day or so. The result is astonishing.a subtle hollow beneath the prominence of the cheekbone giving the face a much thinner and graceful appearance. |
