Breast Augmentation Q & A
What is involved in breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation surgery at our Park Avenue Plastic Surgery Center involves using a “Bio-Dimensional” approach to select implants that complement a woman’s existing body dimensions for a more natural, sophisticated contouring process. This procedure has been proven to be effective at increasing the size of breasts and restoring breast volume and shape. In many situations, breast augmentation is coupled with a breast lift to combine fuller-looking breasts with a perkier physique.
Why should I get breast augmentation?
There are many factors to consider before undergoing breast augmentation surgery as it is a very personal choice. However, it will be necessary to meet with our plastic surgeon, Dr. Wells, to discuss your treatment goals and decide if breast augmentation is right for you.
Appropriate candidates for breast augmentation surgery meet all of the following criteria:
- physically healthy
- have realistic expectations about surgery outcomes
- have fully developed breasts that are too small, asymmetrical, have an elongated shape, or have lost volume and shape after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging
What can I expect during breast augmentation?
During the initial consultation, Dr. Wells will discuss with you what to expect during and after your breast augmentation surgery. As there are a variety of techniques, he will work with you to determine the incision method and implant type that is most appropriate for you.
Dr. Wells and his surgical team will provide anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. An incision is made in an inconspicuous location previously determined by the surgeon and an implant is inserted either under the pectoral muscle or immediately in front of the pectoral muscle. The incisions are sutured shut, and the breasts are bound to optimize recovery.
